Within reach? Not likely. For the most part the Democrats are not only incapable of winning -- they could lose more. This bunch would screw up a pea soup sandwich. What is the adage? You can't beat somethin' with nuthin'

Yes, Carol, we definitely need more Republicans.
I mean, they did such a good job preventing 9/11. No, wait, they didn't. Even with a briefing titled "Bin Laden determined to attack in US."
Okay, but at least they caught Osama Bin Laden so fast. No, wait, he's still on the loose.
Maybe they're a little slow there, but they're so good at keeping down government spending. No, wait, we've got a massive deficit and constant spending increases!
Okay, but at least the money's put to good use. Look how well prepared they were for Hurricane Katrina. No, wait, Brownie actually did a pretty crappy job of that. And nobody bothered to look into the simulations that predicted the levees breaking.
Alright, so Katrina was a bust, so what. At least our soldiers have top-of-the-line equipment. No, wait, they're having to buy their own body armor and graft scrap metal onto Humvees.
Well, at least they got a successful, easy-to-understand prescription drug benefit passed. No, wait, it's a confounding mess that gives gobs of money to health insurance companies, without accomplishing its stated purpose.
None of that really matters. At least the Republicans have brought honor and integrity back to Washington. No, wait, they've been taking bribes from Jack Abramoff!
So, tell me again what the Republicans are so good at getting done?

Get more done? More debt? More war? More illegal wiretapping? More outing of CIA agents? More degradation in healthcare and education? What color is the sky in your world?

Where is Ross when he is needed most?
I think it is time for a good third party to evolve based on the total mismanagement by the Republicans and the Democrat's inability to find competent candidates to get the Republicans out. (Dean and Hillary -- give me a break)

Get done? What's gotten done? We've had people retire, no one to replace them, a federal bureaucracy that falls apart when major disaster hits the nation, budgets passed in the middle of the fiscal year and possibly spies it own citizens. Golly gee, I can't wait for more Republicans to be elected. That doesn't mean I support the Democrats. Of course, the sensible Republicans won't run and we need them desperately.

Here's a thought -- suppose Democrats had a net gain of 12, for a 219-216 split in favor of Republicans. Why is that interesting? Because the "real" split would probably be 221-220 in favor of Democrats, if the nonvoting D.C. and territorial delegates are figured in.

Get more done? What have we "gotten done" in the past 5 years? Death, debt and destruction. I've had enough.

Isn't this the exact same column that was written about this time in 2002? Midterm elections, party out of power always gains -- except in 2002 it didn't happen.

I only hope and pray the American people put more Republicans in power, maybe more will get done! GovExec.com should realize you have a lot of Republicans that read your articles.
