Return to Article: Administration releases details on competitiveness initiative

I have seen similar initiatives during previous administrations and not a lot came from them. A good example was the "Star Wars" weapons program. It was to bring about dramatic advancements in electronics and rocket science. It would open new research jobs across the country. We would all be made safer by being able to blast enemy missiles from the sky with lasers, electron beams and kinetic weapons.
The equivalent of billions of today's dollars was spent. The result was a weapons system that never happened and really wasn't needed. The people that benefited were the special interests of our congressional leaders. What did we, the taxpayer, get?
Any proposal of our leaders in the government, while appearing to be in the interest of our country, must be suspect of having hidden political agendas which will result in a great deal of waste and mismanagement. Let the current administration make public through the Internet a record of where every cent of this money is spent. It's time for accountability.
