It is worth noting that while West Virginia had two coal mine fires that killed a total of 14 people, a Canadian potash mine suffered a fire recently without losing a single person. 75 miners went to a shelter area equipped with air, water, food, and cots, where they stayed for 3 days until the smoke was cleared. Had such a station been installed in the Sago mine, those men would still be alive. We have the technology, but we are not requiring it to be used.
