At the Veterans Affairs Department in D.C., you have to be a GS-14 or 15 to be allowed to telecommute. Of course, these same people are considered too valuable to not be in the office all the time, so few (if any) participate. At DISA, the same unofficial policy might apply.

This is a no brainer - don't move!
Wait til Rummy starts moving people out of Crystal City and you will see an exodus from government employment that will match biblical proportions.

*...a military base south of Baltimore?* Gee, what could that be? This makes it sounds like these folks are being asked to move to Outer Mongolia! They can all buy new houses in Columbia, Md., and live happily ever after.
Spare me the whining from these folks who are supposedly supporting *the war-fighter* and the supposed sacrifices they will have to make by merely moving a few miles up the road. Next time, send them to Baghdad!

The reason so many eligible people are leaving the government is the new pay-for-performance plan. The work involved to learn the new rating system and to evaluate an employee is just too much and not worth the hassle. How does the saying go? If it isn't broke; don't fix it. If you broke it; you fix it. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and TSA broke the system on pay and they do not want to loose their high salaries to come down to the GS pay scale so they have come up with the plan to cover their outrageous salaries and spending. Their jobs are no more important than the State Department, CIA or FBI, yet they want all the money for security while short-changing the Coast Guard.
