Astute observer: I hate to break this to you, but you're not so astute as you may like to think. Invoking logical fallacies such as the appeal to ignorance and ad hominum arguments to defend the mistakes of the Bush administration do little to merit any credibility. In fact, it should chill Republicans everywhere when those within the party's ranks feel compelled to resort to logical fallacies to advance their agenda!

Seems like some people are blaming the messenger. GovExec writer Charlie Cook gave a good analysis of the facts. Bush poll numbers are sinking fast and it's no mystery why. Even rich and powerful Republicans are blasting Bush these days according to conservative columnist Novak. Yet, blaming the press for pointing out poor presidential leadership seems all too reminiscent of Spiro Agnew.

To answer your question Shirley Schaffer of Fairborn OH....YES.. This man is couragous enough to send others in harms way, why should he be any different? Lead from the front or get out of the way.

Ref Clinton rating. What does that say about those poll responders. No respect for the office anyway! A for president Bush--just a bunch of folks who need someone to take care of them and are pissed off because they can't have their way.

Another predictably weak and devoid of competent analysis (fifth)"column" from the petty Bush ankle-biter, Charlie Cook. The glaring question in Cook's superficial analysis - why not compare and contrast the changed role of the national media in their coverage of the Presidents going back to Eisenhower and how that might impact popularity polls? Had the playing field been level (by that I mean true fair and balanced reportage as there used to be rather than this one-sided deluge of left wing, Democratic Party slant) Cook's precious poll numbers and his analysis might be different. The role of media has most definitely changed in our society to the detriment of the country - and to some media workers - note the huge layoffs at the New York Times recently.
Instead of thoughtful, insightful, non-partisan analysis, Gov Exec continues to give space to the predictable, bland anti-Bush rhetoric of the light-weight Charlie Cook.
Hey, Charlie, why not spice your analysis up a bit with a good, old fashioned fabrications against Bush ala Dan Rather? You will never make the A-list of the left wing elite cocktail parties that you clearly and so desperately want to attend with these several Bush attacks published ad nauseum. Keep trying, little pup.

Wait till the public reads and understands what the Republican House members are proposing in their package of recommendations called "Operation Offset". The list of budget cuts which is labeled and disguised as "needed to fund Katrina relief" but the study has been in the works for some time. The cuts are meant to reduce the HUGE DEFICIT brought on by 911 and the IRAQ war. Kitrina was just icing on the cake. If all of these recommendations were passed it would drastically effect a lot of the social, economic and environmental conditions as we know them. It further separates the economic classes. Works to reduce pensions and decrease health benifits. In all it could possibly set this country back a 100 years. If it all comes to bear, we will ALL pay dearly for the war in IRAQ. Heh, has anybody seen Bin Laden?
