"Unprecedented carnage???" What about almost 3,000 killed in less than two hours on 9/11? Is the fact that the Superdome was trashed and used as a public toilet freaking people out? Heaven help us when the real big one hits!

As I read your story I begin to realize that not everyone will catch the fact that of those people responding to Katrina as rescuers/law enforcement and the like, will not receive a mass disaster debriefing. A great follow-up story that would enlighten everyone about the mental, emotional and/or spiritual trauma that these folks are exposed to should be written. The ICISF (International Critical Incident Stress Foundation) is one of the few resources available for information with regard to the debriefing process, which by the way, we are in the window now of getting these debriefings done for those who have just returned from this disaster. The CBP Border Patrol Family Servies Response Team has components trained and ready to go with Peer Support members and Chaplains trained in assisting with these debriefings. PTSD is an illness recognized by the medical and psycological community that affects people who suffer crises such as these. 911 taught us alot about the need for this service. Thank you for your time and I am available to you as a resource:
