UPDATE:
Michael Garcia started his new job as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan after Labor Day. His replacement, Julie Myers, was nominated but has not yet been confirmed by the Senate. John Clark, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of ICE, is acting for now.
Maybe the lack of action on the Myers nomination means that the Senate is studying the recent draft DHS OIG report recommending that ICE and CBP be combined into one agency? Many of us hope that is the case, but time will tell.

All clueless DOJ hacks who don't have a clue what an integrated border enforcement strategy is. Can't forget the kool-Aid drinking sellouts Clarke and Forman. Even after being told by the DHS/OIG to merge CBP and ICE that FBI lackey Chertoff still goes ahead with the worst of three options. Good job congress for overseeing this debacle. Where are you Sen. Susan Collins?

Nice story, but your information is already out of date. Of course, that may be partly due to the ever-changing cast of characters in DHS management, which resembles a revolving door. It can also be fairly said that there are more actors in DHS than in Hollywood (acting this, acting that, etc.). Regarding Michael Garcia, he was confirmed by the Senate to be the next U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York back in July, so he's as good as gone. Few in ICE will be sorry to see him go, considering how screwed up this agency has been since it's creation 2 and 1/2 years ago. He lost whatever little credibility he had left with the following quote from this Gov Exec article, "The integration, Garcia said, has enhanced both national security and public safety", when discussing the merger of INS and U.S. Customs investigative and intelligence units. Is he kidding or what? What planet is he on? And please tell us again why the FPS is still in ICE.
Good bye, Mike, and don't let the door hit you on the way out!
