Please correct me if I am wrong but this article seems to imply that consultants are paid good money to do what bad or ineffective managers could not. That is adapt to a changing environment which is the definition of effective management. Then when the consultants leave the existing management can choose not to implement the changes made by the consultants. This all seems to be an incredible waste of taxpayers and stockholders dollars. The solution is to either train or develop the skill or desire in the executive or managers to implement the necessary change. And if they are ineffective then find someone with the skills to be effective in the changed enviroment.
