How many times do we have to tell the Pentagon that the cold war is over before they will get the idea.
The COLD WAR IS OVER ALREADY!
We don't need Star Wars or any weapons platform in space because we are dealing with terrorists not nations. This is a matter of watching from the sky. It can be done with small, inexpensive satellites. These satellites can be launch with smaller, inexpensive rockets.
The Space Shuttle program was bad investment by a military that was intent on demonstrating air superiority to an enemy that no long exists. It's outrageously expensive and wasteful. Worst of all, it is possible for it cause a horrible disaster.
Our nation needs to abandon a lot of space programs we don't need and use our resources to educate our society before we become a nation of technologically inept yuppies. We should be leading the world in technological development. We are following. We are losing the war.
