I work with at least four systems that require my social security number for the system to operate. The SSN is displayed and obvious to all around. Where is the privacy officer? The DoD needs to mandate that no system in any service will use an SSN to ID a worker. The DoD does not even begtin to follow the basics of individual privacy even for civilians let alone military people.
