It usually isn't hard to see what trough the malcontents are slopping from - usually a fat civilian job where they avoided military service and received several deferments due to their college years or a "bad back". As the rhyme could go, "oh where could it be except from DOD" HAVE A GOOD NAVY DAY.

Sorry guys but in general the military are far overpaid for the work they perform until they go to war. Once at war they are far underpaid for the work they do. However, only about ten percent of the military will every "go to war" in the sense that they are getting shot at on a continual basis. If you happen to be one of the 10% your far under paid but the other 90% are far over paid. The military should designate specific units as front line combat troops and pay them as such and the others should be replaced by civilians. There will be a large group in the middle that have to be para-military and should be paid as such. The entire infrastructure and pay has never been adopted to the volunteer military concept.
When they get out they only should be considered VETs if they participated in the frontline war and not because they served as a logsitics backup for the troops. The military needs a big A76 rif.

A military retiree working in government could never cost what a civilian worker does (that is a misnomer by the way). By the time we count the sick and annual leave they steal from the system, add the time they spend on personal phone calls daily, count the unauthorized breaks they take, count the time they use doing personal business on government time, etc., a military retiree couldn't come close to costing what a civilian does. The list just goes on and on doesn't it?

...as if veterans didn't have enough unfair advantages already...

Geez, how much money do these retired military need? They get the high grade jobs in government first, now they want it all. What a rip off.....and they don't do the work better AND cost the taxpayer more than a civilian worker does.

Anybody with an ounce of sense can smell a rat here and suspect it is the operaton within the GSA that is putting out the odor. This is like directing federal agencies to comply with hiring laws for disabled veterans; - they just use another avenue to avoid it. The directive signed by Bush is nothing but smoke and mirrors. They have a bunch of high, overpaid civilians (non-vets) who are making the rules and doing as they please. Wait and see the fraud in this whole business when the truth gets out.
