Keep whining about your tax dollar and this administration will close all our bases here and have them in Iraq. You don't think they are spending so much money over there for nothing do you. I personally think we should pull out of all the countries, secure our borders and keep all our present bases open to have a lot of the military guard our borders.
real tired!!!

Uh, don't forgot though, the Northeast is where all the "blue" states are. Democratic cities are toast under the current administration.

I don't call being anti-unnecessary war being "anti-military" as an earlier writer suggests. I really don't understand or appreciate these people who think sending other people's kids off to Iraq to die is more patriotic than opposing idiotic wars. Where are those WMD?????? Oh, I forget, we can't save Social Security, but we have a billion dollars a week to spend on Iraqi "freedom". Don't I feel safe?!

"Pentagon officials have said that as much as 25 percent of all space on military bases may be unneeded."
Thats probably a very conservative estimate. I question whether or not this Northeast study means anything. Just as with the previous BRACs, every base and every region has its own argument to prove that their base shouldn't close. A city may spend a million dollars to "study" a proposed closure and dig up some interesting facts and figures. But, the bottomline should still be in the interest of our country as a whole. If we don't need a certain base, we don't need it, period.
I would think that larger cities would be better able to cope with a base closing than a community in the middle of nowhere. But, the largest cities seem to spend the most money and make the most noise arguing their case. Bases should not remain open just because of political influence. That would make it just another waste of taxpayer dollars.

You also have to take in account that the Northeast part of the country is very anti-military so why not close those bases.

The study states that the region has been hit hard by prior base closures but it does not say that the region has benefited significantly for years using my tax money on bases that were not necessary. I think it is time that the country stop sucking the government dry at every turn and start generating something of value in the private sector in competition with the world.
