Boeing and Lockheed Martin are proud to be the protectors of the American people. Just ask them. After all, they contributed millions of dollars to get the Department of Defense under their wing. It is better to have a lobbyist in the hand than two in the bush.

Did anyone notice when DoD was pushing for this BRAC, Rumsfeld said there was 25% excess infrastructure and now he's saying that it's much less - that 25% was a Clinton figure? I just wish someone would tell the military departments that the land and property on the closed bases belong to the American people, not them! They should not disregard redevelopment plans by selling the property at market value and they should clean up their toxic sites before transfer.

Bravo, George Bush. Though some could be used for the homeless.

CEO,
"He was a total failure as Secretary."
Not arguing - I have no basis on which to argue - just curious. By what criteria was he a total failure?
My experience is that it's impossible to find ANY standard for senior civil service positions to be measured against so it wouldn't be possible to call anyone a failure OR success. Then again, they call themselves "brilliant successes" all the time...

Well, the last BRACs were not exactly a roaring success considering all of the misuse of influence by Congressional representatives. Senator DeWine of Ohio did manage to buy himself enough votes to stay in office then. I suspect that, when all is said and done, a lot more will be said than done.
How can a BRAC work when the Congress doesn't?

Hope Principi does a better job here than as Secretary of the VA. He was a total failure as Secretary.
