Agreed. Why do we even care about Chris Shays? Now that the election is over, this column is pointless.

Charlie Cook calls Shays' winning election strategy of refusing to get down in the muck with his opponent "unwillingness to run a hard-hitting campaign" and "unaggressive." Cook obviously wanted Shays to sling the dirt so he'd have something to write about. Isn't it interesting how a national political commentator, who could show leadership by complimenting a politician on winning after a clean and fair fight, instead blames him for failing to mix it up in the street? Cook would trade the might of his journalist's pen for a ticket to a smackdown. We deserve a better commentator.
