I agree, competitive sourcing needs to be stopped before the idea of competition for commercial services takes hold in America. What in the world is going on here. Who are these people!!! Worse, how can the government run efficiently or appropriately if it allows its managers to make even marginal economic decisions? These are all political decisions - aren't they? Imagine a Wal-Mart that had to rely on competition when it set prices or a Wal-Mart run by business people rather than some member of Congress from Maryland or Massachusetts. Federal employees are special and should never be subjected to competition regardless of the type of work. I prefer the old accross-the-board budget cuts to the knees rather than any attempt to focus on commercial service competition. Competition is just not fair. Taxpayers know they can trust us to do what is in their best interests first - over our own. What we need is more union money going into the Democratic Party so that they - the taxpayers - will finally understand and get their money's worth. We did not yell about competition enough - thats all.

And there you have it ladies and gentlemen. Mr. Styles has made it quite clear. The facade of 'competing' has nothing to do with more efficient government and everything to do with providing political cover. God forbid any self respecting republican might agree or sympathize with unions. As Mr. Threlkeld said direct conversions are theft pure and simple. On the other end of the spectrum there's the A-76 process which is theft of a decietful and Machiavellian kind. It steals jobs from hard working public servants through down grading and forced early retirements. It steals from the public by promising a leaner more efficient government yet continues to add tax payer's dollars to the bloated coffers of contractors. Fiscal responsibility left the building in 2000 and avarice and greed set up shop. To call it anything else is deluding your self to the political process. It will be at least another four more years before we can even start to turn it around.

I love it when OPM says it's not fair to small business to compete for jobs. When was it ever fair to the person sitting on the job to have it privatized out from under them? What formula do you use to compete the 10 secretaries in the organization against Kelly Services? The statement about easier ways to reduce head counts says it all. I was a "direct conversion". I would have been better off as a federal employee even with "lower pay" because, if nothing else, I'd still be able to retire before I die.

Is anyone surprised?

Thank God!!! Finally, OMB is realizing that the outsourcing process needs improvement. If OMB is not careful in making the process sound proof, they will be giving power to evil people to use their positions for evil doings. For example, awarding contracts to their friends for kick backs. Kudos to OMB for realizing the need for improvements!!!
