Return to Article: Bush signs intelligence reform bill

We live in very perilous times- both because of 9/11 and because of those who place security concerns above everything else.
The President said: "Under this new law, our vast intelligence enterprise will become more unified, coordinated and effective. It will enable us to better do our duty, which is to protect the American people," Bush said, moments before signing the legislation"
No. The President's foremost duty is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. Democracy is not unified, coordinated, and effective. It is mostly chaotic, uncoordinated, and at times very ineffective. Mr. Putin is recreating the former in Russia. Our President who needs results yesterday doesn't truly appreciate the beauty of disorganization as established by our Founding Fathers-- nobody has too much power and therefore everyone is checked and balanced.
I am afraid that our Republic is swiftly headed for tyranny and putting this power into the hands of a National Director of Intelligence is just one more peg in the Republic's coffin. I'm looking forward to the next Star Wars movie where the President of their Republic becomes Emperor by destroying all the Jedi Knights.
