Return to Article: Four Bush Cabinet members to resign

To put some historical context on this, I just saw a story that stated that Dr. Rice, if confirmed, would be the 66th Secretary of State. Now I might have my math wrong, but haven't we only had about 2/3 that many Presidents? hmmmmmm... seems to me that less than a full Presidential term for a Cabinet Secretary is the norm, not the exception.

What's being overlooked here is that this is pretty typical after an election. It doesn't matter who the President is, if memory serves me correctly, all Presidents have turnover after a reelection. I'm sure the same happened with Clinton and his posse.

Duh....skeptical.....do a re-look at the article, and my comments. The guys that put in the long days are cabinet members, not our crack elected officials.....my point about them was that they should go home after a term, and not make a career out of living off the fat of the land and maximizing their position of power.

To the poster regarding 12 - 15 hour days:
I think you just caused me to lose sleep for the next week. Congressmen and Senators that are putting in 12 - 15 hour days consistently? Can you even BEGIN to guess at the quality and quantity of laws that would flow from DC like raw sewage?!? Protect us from more government - enact a law that they can only show up for one week a quarter and only to get the budget enacted. Oh, wait, they can never get that done in the expansive time allotted now, can they?

Now if only the one that needs to go would do the right thing and resign. DOD is a not-for-profit organization that should not be run like a commercial company, the only effects this person has had on defense are negative. Yes Rumsfeld it is time for you to go. We need someone with the know how in defense versus the CEO know how. If not for Rumsfeld's mishandling and refusal the take knowledgable commanders' advice Iraq would not be the problem it is now. I am sure in Rumsfeld's opinion a few American lives lost are meaningless.

We are awake, if you had any clue at all, you would understand that the people that take jobs like these work 12 to 15 hours a day when they are in town. They are on offical travel more often than not. These "fat cats" mostly give up any kind of life at all to serve their country....are you awake yet....they are not leaving because they don't like their jobs, they are leaving because they have served their country and it is now time to go back to their private lives, just as the framers of the constitution intended. Get a clue.....Now, if we could just get our elected representatives to do the same we would really have something....

I can't think of a worse loss for American Forign Policy than the resignation of Secretary Powell. I just hope that Ms. Rice doesn't perform the same mission at the State Department that Congressman Goss is currently performing at the CIA.
The State Department under Mr. Powell increased its morale several fold because his leadership was inspiring. It isn't so easy to change the culture of an organization for the better but it is real easy to destroy it.
I wish Mr. Powell all the best in his future endeavors-- it is good he is getting away from this administration- bad for America but ultimately good for him. He is the only cabinet member over the last four years I personally would ever support for higher office because of his integrity.
