    So much for civilian control of the military. Absolutely place a retired military in charge of the Army. He already is conditioned to the wants of the Army and thinks civilians are a pain. The entire operation of DoD is in the hands of the military and there is no civilian oversight. Where civilians prove a real pain they are contracted out and then t he contractors hire ex-military to perform the old civilian jobs in a manner that facilitates what the military wants!

    The military obtained its toys - plane, tanks etc. Now they are crying because they do not have the proper equipment in Iraq. It is the Army leaders that caused the problems in the first place and the Congress that loads the defense budget with their favortite items such as the special olympics. Where did you think they got all that money? At least $3 million for special olympics is in the defense budget. The defense budget isn't for defense alone, Congress hides all its favorite nopn-defense crap in the defense budget. You have not seen Congresses welfare programs go away you only have seen them move to the Defense budget.
