I agree with David, as a Vietnam vet bring the draft back and also include women, we can start with the Bush girls.

This *new* policy was in effect for Reservists in Iraq in 2003. We had some enlisted in our unit whose contracts ended while they were in Baghdad - yet they were required to stay. However, at the time, anyway, for Active Duty enlisted troops, when their commitments ended... they were flown back to Germany and out processed right away. Was this fair? Of course not. It's only news now because it affects Active Duty people and never news when it just affects Reservists.

We need a draft, but we need one that is fair. Not the kind that lets Dick Cheney out of the military or the kind that lets King George run to Texas and Alabama to run political campaigns. We need a real draft that takes in ALL eligible personnel to do their part, regardless of their status in society.
Until we are ready to do that we are better off doing nothing.

If we as a country must maintain this military stance and wipe out terrorism from the face of the planet, which we need to do, then do not put the continuing burden on the same "All Voluntary Army" for an undetermined amount of time. Active duty signed up for a specific time. Reservist and National Guardsmen also did the same. Holding these men and women back to fight the war will only show future recruits that they can have the same fate if they volunteer their services.
The time has come in which all free American men and women, of recruitment age, should be required to contribute to the cause in which millions before them have done.
People of this country need to realize that we are all in this battle together and not just the folks that signed a contractual agreement for a specified period of military service that is now being breached. This current generation must accept the fact that there is a price to pay by all individuals and not by just a volunteer group, now being held hostage, to maintain the awesome freedoms we benefit from by having the privilege to live in this country.
It is time to reinstate the draft, period! Let a new generation comprehend what most every generation before them has had to contribute to maintain the freedom many Americans now take for granted.
