The Congress we deserve would have the best interests of the country, its citizens and its taxpayers, foremost in their hearts and minds. Such a Congress would forbid any lobbying, in any form, for five or even ten years after an individual left government "service". But the Congress we have looks for post-retirement employment opportunities (willing or unwilling retirement). The laws that protect their own job opportunities also protect bureaucrats.
And all the abuses attributed to the military-industrial complex can now be found in the health care - government complex. Just as bad. Just as ugly. Just as expensive and wasteful for the taxpayer. And just as profitable for those who have their hands out and those who make the rules.
