It just seems clear as a bright day in the middle of August that Mr. Clarke is without question a liar. I just hope that when the commission on terror is finished and it is proven, that he goes to jail where he belongs. But then all of you dumbacrats out there will holler for mercy for the jerk. Old news- the administration has now called Mr. Clarke a liar and G-d forbid, a closet democrat- and so far out of the loop that he doesn't know what he is talking about-- and/or a disgruntled white house staffer upset over not being selected for DHS and out for revenge. Pick one or all.
What a sad day for America that long standing federal civil servants and/or administation managers are being vilified and castigated for political reasons. I would just like to say to Mr. Clarke, Mr. Foster, Ms. Chambers, Mr. O'Neil- my thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep up your morale because the old adage what goes around comes around is more often true than not. You will all be exonerated and rewarded in good time for your bravery.

Shakespeare had a more appropriate characterization of the Bush camp's aggressive response to the Clarke allegations and personal attacks on Clarke: "(They) [The lady] doth protest too much, methinks."

I noticed something very interesting - the White House, while calling Senator Kerry a liar isn't calling Mr. Clarke a liar. This shows that the book has great veracity.
The best that this administration can come up with is the Press Secretary saying "Dick Clarke - American grandstander." Not only are they really nasty by ridiculing his name ala Dick Clark of American Bandstand but obviously they have nothing else to attack with.
Let's see what has happened over these last few weeks - their counterterrorism czar has called the President a wimp. Their medicare actuary czar has said his job was threateneed from the White House if he disclosed the true cost of the new Medicare Bill, and the Republican Party is coming apart at the seams because the President's attacks against his political enemies are back firing and other elected Republicans are feeling a change of wind.
Maybe the federal civil service has a future after all - I'm looking forward to seeing what happens over this next month. Maybe the Republicans should be looking for an alternative if the President's candidacy implodes. :-)
