It is interesting that government agencies are regulated and forced to comply with privacy mandates that the privatre sector ignore. It seems to me that Choicepoint has a role to play. However, I question the great latitude given to companies like Choicepoint in the private sector.
I think that Congress needs to take a look at the practices and build some protections for the public into how these companies treat compliants when information is incorrect.

This is an excellent article. It points out the benefits and flaws of the current system. One of the things that I don't understand is why is it that when a person takes responsibility for their own "data profile" and point out the inaccuracies they are considered guilty and their explanations not given weight?
It is very hard if not impossible to have reports corrected without resorting to litigation with the way the system operates presently. And that is wrong and costly to the public in both monetary and civil right forms.
