This measure is a great first step in the right direction; the next step is to take appropriate action to address this outsourcing activity in the private sector. I don't advocate laws prohibiting the practice, merely measures that would help to offset the ecomomic impact on the United States; such as the loss of tax base at the Federal, State and local levels; loss of contributions to Social Security and Medicare; and increase costs to support displaced Americans.
To those who say that the legislature has not properly thought through the consequences of this action, I say that there are consequences to taking no action also. Part of the job of our elected representatives is to assess the relative risks of multiple courses of action, and act in such a way as to best protect the present and future interests of Americans.
As to any possible backlash, we'll adjust. There is nothing overseas that we cannot produce ourselves, if pushed to it. America bashing has become a bit too much of a favorite worldwide pastime and I personally believe that other nations need us at least as much as we may need them.
Buy American goods; Hire American workers; Back American enterprise!
