Return to Article: Postal Service users, competitors weigh in on changes

If you are going to treat the postal service as a corporation then it should be privatized. If the postal service can contract work out then it should be privatized. The "competitors" exist because the postal service is backward and out of date! Let the competitors take all of the postal services work that is profitable and let the postal service serve those areas that are not profitable in the private sector. Once the postal service is truely providing a government subsidy function then Congress can determine if that function should continue or should be dropped. The current process has the first class mail consumer subsidize all the junk mail distritutors. That is why mail has dropped - the price already is far too high. Also, direct bill payment that is good for the financial system reduces mail for the post office. We really do not need the postal services as they are and they should go away - not be maintained to preserve postal jobs.
