I can see where the DOD will save money by outsourcing some military jobs that are conducted by the service members. In the long run this will hurt those Soldiers that joined the military to gain skills that's they use competatively in the civilian market once they leave the military. What other job can a Soldier get as am MP, Infantry Man or even Truck Driver in civilian sector? Wow, they can become a police, securuty officer or Ooooops a track driver. This move is helping the DOD but hurting my fellow Soldiers.

The present outsourcing drive in the US govrnment departments and DoD appears a mad race, that will endup to outsource every thing in the government kitty to private companies related to politicians in gov positions, and I can forsee that time when we see an add in the news papers asking bids for American President from some offshore outsourcing company for cheaper dimes. Presently running the White House must be costing in hundreds of millions of doolars!

It's pretty obvious the Bush administration wants to discourage people from making the military a career.

If the military is filled with warfighting positions only, what do we get out of the troops when there is no war? Are we going to leave sailors on the ships forever? What about sea-shore rotation? There is a need for non warfighting position to be manned by military personnel. Otherwise they will be more expensive since they will not have any duties when they are not deployed. Even in today's environment the military where I am employed do very little when they are not deployed but they continue to draw a full salary. Would somebody wake up Bush and tell him how the military he dodged really works.

Having written contracts for outsourcing military jobs and performed the evaluations for such jobs I say can from experience that OUTSOURCING DOES NOT SAVE MONEY. In fact your cost will have increased one to two-folds or more in the first five years. Who ever says otherwise has not had to live with the impacts of outsourcing and/or they have something to gain by doing it. In this case one size does not fit all.

This is a great idea if you want no one to volunteer ever again! Just tell the recruiter that they cannot promise any learning experiences which will be useful after the military tour of duty. Better yet let the recruit's family know that their soldier will have a very high "optempo" which translates as war or remote posting for an entire career! Better yet explain to the military guy why the civilian (probably contractor) has a job he could do stateside so he can spend the majority of his career overseas!

Find out what they get and what they do with what they get - now! The Pentagon cannot tell you what they executed against the current budget let alone reducing the accounting staff. The Pentagon represents the only federal agency that cannot get unqualified audit opinions on its financial statements, pays contractors twice for the same work, overpays contractors on a regular basis and awards illegal contracts. This really sounds like an operation that shoujld get more money. The DoD budget should be cut by ten percent a year until they get their financial house in ordfer and that is not going to happen for ten years, if ever.
