Return to Article: President Bush details space budget amid mixed reaction

He wants to go to Mars with a 5 percent/yr increase in NASA's budget? Anyone with half a brain can see right through this ploy. The President is no more interested in space exploration than I am in the price of pork bellies. This is merely a dim-witted attempt to appeal to the educated upper middle class vote. These are the swing voters that will decide the next election.

In my opinion this money would be better spent as an incentive to develop alternate fuel sources. Gas prices are expected to go to +$3.00 a gallon this summer. This cost will affect all fuel costs e.g. heating as well. These costs will then affect the cost of delivery of food and other items which will all result in more money out of our pockets. Now if you're in the oil business or a politician with kick backs from the oil boys these costs are minor compared to the dividends you will receive. Based on fuel costs continuing to escalate and our dependency on other countries for fuel increasing daily our leaders (if they weren't too busy lining their pockets with profits and donations from oil lobbyists) would make this issue a priority. Instead of spending loads of fuel and money traveling into space lets back up and solve some real issues here on earth. Can you remember a president who has ever made the attempt to solve this problem? Think George would cut his ties with the oil boys long enough to make solving this problem a reality?

Is Bush drinking again? How can he offer up another billion when he cannot give federal workers a decent wage increase? Where is the national health program? Where is the money to rebuild our bridges and highways? Where is the money for the basic items the federal government should provide? This guy is crazy and the Republicans are following this idiot without question! Congress has to get serious about how they approve the spending of money and stop this crazy presidental spending. The House, Senate and White House are acting like little kids in a candy store and the store is mine!
