Has anyone looked at the possibility of the states that have their own state defense forces (not guard or reserve), performing those same duties? This would help alleviate the Guard and Reserve Forces from additional duties. I know for a fact that is what our main mission statement is for the Ohio Military Reserve.
The Ohio Military Reserve serves under the Governor as Commander in Chief through the office of the Adjutant General. Our primary mission is to provide a cadre level of trained units and equipment capable of expanding in times of necessity to protect life and property, and preserving peace, order, and public safety. In order to accomplish this role OHMR units are trained as Military Police and Medical Support.

Our guard units here in Okla. are being called up to spend 18 months in Iraq so how can they guard our country since they aren't here?? One of our employees was lucky. His guard unit got to help run Ft. Sill in Lawton, Okla. while the regulars from there went overseas. The guard units were created for Homeland Security such as natural disasters but have been increasingly called up to serve overseas because we have let our regular military units be depleted.
