Return to Article: Air marshals depart TSA, join law enforcement bureau

Once again, political appointees are setting the stage for disaster. ICE is an alphabet soup of agencies, with no common heritage, history, or function. Now they want everyone to be trained as air marshals, so that the current air marshals can get a break! I guess they didn't fully check out the job, and were surprised to learn that it is tiring and tedious. Well, they should have done their homework! Also, if there is a terrorist threat, and everyone has to take to the air, who will be left to do their jobs on the ground??? The numerous other laws enforced by ICE and it's legacy Customs, INS, and FPS agents just can't be tossed to the side, while everyone flies the not so friendly skies! Looks like just another press release to tell the public all is well, when it isn't. Too many missions makes ICE a jack of all trades, but a master of none!

They are overpaid already and they want to keep it that way! Don't privatize this function because it makes too much sense to do so. They don't even want to be air marshals, they want the opportunity to "cross-train". Hell they should learn to be air marshals before they try to get into another area. Getting $80,800 annually (base) is far too much for a person that rides a plane with less than a 1% probability that something will happen that requires their involvement. Here is more money for seniors and kids in school.
