I must admit that this really is a piece of news. How about if they help me pay for my car loan too. If a private company choses to provide that incentive it's different, it's not coming out of everyone's pocket. I know, it does in a way as the costs are most likely passed on through product, etc. I'm talking about the fact that we have a huge deficit in this country and I think management of every dime to lower it should be the focus. Incentive for recruiting, ha, there's less security working for the government than ever and most times the person only has to stay a couple years....

I agree with US Government. As a govt employee, I repaid every dime of my student loan back in 1987. All I can say is "I want my $10,000 back."

Funnily enough, these programs are designed for two reasons: promoting higher education and federal employment. Admirable? Take a look at what the US Dept of Education is spending on repaying student loans on behalf of its employees. One would think that, as an employee of the agency in charge of education, in the division that oversees higher education financing, I would be the first in line for reimbursement.....NOT! So, what value is there really....hmmm?

Why should government pay student loans? This is ridiculous and a boon to those that borrow to attend college while a penalty to those that pay for their own education. This is discrimination at its best! All students immediately should borrow as much as possible in student loans and complete school. Then go work for the government for four years and let them repay your loans while giving you job experience. Once the loans are significantly reduced or paid off - leave the government and get a real job that will pay you more than the government based on your experience and education (both of which were given you by the government). By "George" this really sounds like the American way. Government agencies, if this is allowed, should repay tuition, books and living expenses for everyone they hire and not tie it to student loans! The entire thing is a waste of my money!
