I am very gald to see that BCIS has taken the first steps toward reducing a massive and long-standing backlog of immigration benefits applications. I am also glad to hear that Mr. Aguirre set a long-term goal to reduce wait times on immigration benefit applications to 6 months by the end of 2006. However, it would be more appropriate if Mr. Aguirre could set some imminent and intermediate goals: limiting the maximum wait time to no longer than 19 months immediately, stopping backlog growth by balancing processed and new applications in two (2) months, reducing backlog by 10% in six (6) months, 20% in twelve (12) months, ....and 100% by 2006.

"We are having to do more manual work than we should. Much of the technology we have right now is several generations behind what the state-of-the-art is in the commercial world." This is a sad state of affairs when a political appointee thinks they do too much work. If they did work there would be no backlog and what they spend on systems they could hire part-time people to reduce the backlog. For the country that holds out the hope of freedom to the world it is sad to see a political appointee condone a backlog on freedom because they do not have systems - how did this country ever get great before there were systems? Hard work!
