I agree the system is outdated and growing too adminstratively top-heavy. Veterans should be able to go to their own doctor in their own town without having to travel a hundred miles. It would be more cost effective to allow this and get rid of the expenses of paying utilities, maintenance, wages, etc. Our medical people are devoted to the veterans, but there is getting to be less of them and more of management.

I am outraged at the amount of money outsourcing studies will cost tax paying citizens. This is just an example of one government agencies projected cost for A-76. When all the other agencies spend millions on the initiative the total figure will be staggering. The current administration needs to stop the competitive sourcing process now, and use the money for public service to our nations citizens.
Federal employees at my agency, (NIH), are committed to the mission of our agency and dedicated servants. Contractors will not provide the same level of dedicated service, they are dedicated to making as much profit as possible.

All Congress did was get rid of the draft. With volunteer military there should be no veterans administration and ex-military that volunteered should not be considered veterans for the purposes of benefits. Eliminate the VA except for those that served as draftees prior to 1972.
Also, the medical benefits easily could be provided by the private sector and the housing benefits woulde be provided better by the private sector. Where do these Congresasmen get the idea that the benefits would have to be provided by the VA.
Congress needs to revamp the entire structure of the military pay and benefit system - it currently is the largest welfare system in the USA, which was ok with a draft but should be discontinued with a volunteer military.
