It's amazing that this type of action isn't more prevalent based on our ex-president's action and the lack of action taken by our other leaders. The message was clear "if you're high enough up the ladder, you can not only get away with the act, you can keep you job and retire with full benefits."
As a federal employee, I would have lost my job immediately as well as benefits. I'll bet the retired Lt. General received all of his benefit package and is no worse for his actions. I'll also bet if he decides to re-enter government service (e.g. as a civilian) or public service, the incident won't be on his record. As long as our supposedly "public servants" fail to respond in a strong and equal manner this type of disgraceful action will continue.
