As a federal manager, I can't help but cheer for holding government "service providers" (like GPO) more accountable.
I run a relatively small operation with about $15,000 in small purchase items throughout the year.
After 12+ years on the job, I am tired of the poor service, quality, and lack of desire to satisfy the customer from providers like UNICOR and GPO.
Here's a simple example: I can purchase a quality chair with a 10 year warranty from a local business for one-third the cost of a UNICOR chair. The local vendor will deliver it within 48 hours (regardless of color). UNICOR requires 60-90 days, can't tell me when it will arrive and charges me extra for inside delivery! It's truly a disgrace and "pork" at it's finest.
I hope episodes such as this story provides a wake up call to those "fat cat" providers who have been permitted to get "lazy"
