Major issue
Y2K problem

Committee profile
The Senate Year 2000 Technology Problem Committee is known for its workmanlike approach to its subject, the much-discussed Y2K computer glitch. One interest group staffer who has worked closely with the committee says that it has been "very nonpartisan. They've reached out to business regularly, and the level of demagoguing has been minimal." Staff Director Robert Cresanti has a history with the committee's chairman, Sen. Robert Bennett, R-Utah. The two have worked together since Cresanti began as a legislative assistant in Bennett's personal office in 1993. Harris Miller, the president of the Information Technology Association of America, calls the panel "accessible, professional, and bipartisan. They are known for looking at the Y2K challenge objectively and for producing high-quality work. You could have imagined a much more partisan and over-the-edge committee."
