Welcome to Tech Insider, a daily blog about what's happening and what's being discussed in the federal IT community. We hope this is going to be a start of a long relationship.

The mission for Tech Insider is straightforward: Throughout the day, the reporters and editors on the technology beat at Government Executive will post items about what is being said, what is being written about and what is being planned in the government IT community. Because information technology has become such an integral part of accomplishing any government mission (with the promise of many more technological and managerial advances to come), this blog is not just for the information technology manager. Tech Insider provides useful information for any government and industry executive who needs to understand how IT affects your job, what you do and ultimately how you can improve public service and policy.

We plan to post items throughout the day on program and organizational management theories, policies, politics, new technologies, legal issues, security, IT spending, workplace issues, and much more. The posts will feature both original reporting and links to items from newswires, magazines, government and corporate websites, blogs, academic journals, conference presentations -- and from you, government and industry insiders. At Tech Insider, we'll do more than just post links to articles or opinion pieces that are interesting; we'll provide context to connect the dots to other news, ideas and trends to tell you why it should be of interest to you.

But for Tech Insider to reach its goals, we need you. We envision the blog as a community forum, where government and industry executives come to learn about and discuss the news, topics, and trends in information technology. We encourage you to post comments. Give us, and other readers, your opinion by clicking on the comments link that appears after every item. Tech Insider's goal is to be a lively and thought-provoking place to visit. So join the discussion.

Finally, we want you to know that Tech Insider is just the beginning of something much bigger at Government Executive.
