January 19, 2005
The thousands of federal employees contemplating retirement over the next several years will have a new resource to help them starting Jan. 27, with the debut of GovExec.com's new weekly Retirement Planning column.
Tammy Flanagan, senior benefits director for the National Institute of Transition Planning Inc., will write the column. Flanagan has 25 years of experience in helping federal employees take charge of their retirement by understanding their benefits. NITP Inc. is a leader in federal retirement planning workshops and seminars.
The Retirement Planning column will cover such topics as Civil Service Retirement System and Federal Employees Retirement System benefits, Thrift Savings Plan contributions, choosing a retirement date, health benefits, life insurance and cost-of-living adjustments. It will be presented in a compact, user-friendly format, including checklists of action items for readers and links to additional resources.
The Retirement Planning column will be featured on the home page of GovExec.com each Friday. It also will anchor the site's new Life After Government section, which features regular news updates on retirement-related subjects, a comprehensive set of links to federal retirement planning resources and a roundup on retirement-related legislation. Readers will be able to sign up to receive each week's column directly in the form of an e-newsletter.
