A new award recognizing integrity in government service and public management was announced this week by the Council for Excellence in Government.
The award was established to honor the memory of Elliot L. Richardson, the only American to head four cabinet agencies. Richardson, a longtime member of the Council for Excellence in Government, died in late December.
The prize will "ensure that Richardson's legacy of high accomplishment and integrity in public life continues to inspire others far into the future," Pat McGinnis, president of the Council, said in a statement.
The award will include a cash prize and will be given for the first time early next year. Council members who knew Richardson well will soon begin working on criteria, eligibility and other details of the prize.
