Chris Sale

Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., Sale, grew up in her mother's native Puerto Rico, speaking both English and Spanish. After two years of college in San Juan, she earned an undergraduate degree from Boston University in 1970. She earned a master's degree in business administration from American University in 1978.

Sale joined the former Civil Service Commission in 1972 as acting budget director and has since held management posts at the Peace Corps, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Small Business Administration. It has been reported that she will be named controller of the Office of Management and Budget.

From 1982 to 1984, Sale was director of the Office of Budget and Management for the state of Ohio. From 1984 to 1985, she was the chief financial officer at National Public Radio.

She received a Presidential Rank award in 1994 while serving as deputy commissioner of the INS, and a Secretary's Exceptional Service Award in 1991 while at Veterans Affairs.
