FEATURES Are You Overweight?
To determine whether individuals are underweight, healthy, overweight or obese, doctors and public health experts often use the Body Mass Index, a calculation of weight relative to height. The formula doesn't account for muscle tone, so some bodybuilders and elite athletes have BMIs in the obese range. To determine your BMI, plug your height and weight into the following equation:
WEIGHT ÷ (height in inches)² × 703 = BMI
- UNDERWEIGHT=Below 18.5
- NORMAL=18.5 to 24.9
- OVERWEIGHT= 25 to 29.9
- OBESE=Above 30
