Ready for Takeoff

Ten Aerospace Expeditionary Forces form the backbone of the Air Force's plan to transform itself into a lighter, more lethal, rapidly deployable force. Each AEF will include a similar package of units from across the Air Force that can be tailored to respond to a range of needs, from disaster relief to strike operations. While units in each AEF will not necessarily be collocated, a lead wing for the 10 AEFs will provide command leadership during deployments. The lead wings are as follows:

  • 388th Fighter Wing, Hill AFB, Utah
  • 7th Wing, Dyess AFB, Texas
  • 3rd Wing, Elmendorf AFB, Alaska
  • 48th Fighter Wing, Lakenheath Air Base, England
  • 355th Wing, Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz.
  • 20th Fighter Wing, Shaw AFB, S.C.
  • 2nd Bomb Wing, Barksdale AFB, La.
  • 28th Bomb Wing, Ellsworth AFB, S.D.
  • 27th Fighter Wing, Cannon AFB, N.M.
  • 1st Fighter Wing, Langley AFB, Va.
