May 12, 2003: Four MPs from the 320th MP Battalion abuse a number of detainees during in-processing at Camp Bucca in southern Iraq.
Aug. 31 - Sept. 9: Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Miller, commander, Joint Task Force Guantanamo, conducts review of detention and interrogation operations in Iraq.
Oct. 13 - Nov. 6: Maj. Gen. Donald Ryder, provost marshal, investigates Iraq detention operations.
October - December: "Numerous incidents of sadistic, blatant and wanton criminal abuses were inflicted on several detainees" at Abu Ghraib. (Taguba report)
Nov. 6: The International Committee of the Red Cross reports abuse to Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski.
Nov. 19: Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, chief of U.S. forces in Iraq, puts 205th MI Brigade in charge of Abu Ghraib.
Nov. 24: "Spc. Luciana Spencer, 205th MI Brigade, sought to degrade a detainee by having him strip and returned to cell naked." (Taguba report)
Dec. 24: Karpinski responds to the Red Cross committee's findings.
Jan. 13, 2004: CID begins investigation into allegations of abuse by members of the 372nd MP Company, 320th MP Battalion.
Jan. 19: Sanchez requests investigation into operations in the 800th Military Police Brigade.
Jan. 31: Lt. Gen. David McKiernan, commander of Coalition Forces Land Component Command, appoints Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba, the command's deputy commanding general support, to investigate. (Taguba already had begun to assemble team.)
February: The Red Cross committee reports findings to Sanchez.
March 3: Taguba briefs McKiernan on findings.
March 6: Taguba submits written report - AR 15-6.
April 28: Photos of prisoner abuse appear on 60 Minutes II.
Late April: Sanchez directs Maj. Gen. George Fay, deputy chief of Army intelligence, to investigate the 205th Military Intelligence Brigade at Abu Ghraib.
