When discussing the "costs" of the new Homeland Security Department (Tech Insider, "The Buying Game," March), accounting should total the budgets of all the merged departments as a starting figure, then subtract this figure from the total estimated cost, and question the excess. The excess above and beyond existing government budgets will be the only real cost of the Homeland Security Agency.

As a former Transportation Security Administration supervisor, I have to say that the people on the floor should be commended for their outstanding work in providing passenger and baggage security. I cannot say enough about their professionalism and dedication.
Amidst the misinformation these workers get from TSA and its contractor NCS Pearson, and the frequency of rude passengers passing through security checkpoints, TSA worker bees have kept their chins up and given their agency a good name.
Say what you will about TSA management, but you should also give credit where credit is due. If there's one thing NCS Pearson did right, it was hiring the right workers to do the job. I'm proud to have worked with the best.
