The Postal Service, with nearly 800,000 employees, is the largest civilian employer in the country. The agency handles 41 percent of the world's mail volume - 630 million pieces every day. The next largest postal handler is Japan, which processes 6 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private company, the Postal Service would be the 10th largest in the country.
