Air Force Lays Out $20,000 for Hot Air Recruiting

Shutdown or not, the Air Force still needs recruits, and it still views the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which started Oct. 5 and runs through Oct. 13, as fertile ground for new enrollees.

The Air Force 367th Recruiting Squadron said 740,000 people attend the Fiesta – the largest balloon event in the world, covered by 133 media outlets – which makes its investment in a $20,000, 110-by-40 foot booth at the Fiesta worthwhile.

In fact, the Recruiting Squadron said not participating in the event would mean ignoring a key target demographic as well as “influencers in the communities we service….”

In Albuquerque, as opposed to Washington, hot air is valued.
