Welcome to the new GovernmentExecutive.com

Here’s your guide to the ins and outs of our redesigned site.

combines our previously separate Defense and Homeland Security sections. The new sections are designed to be destinations in their own right, covering the subjects of greatest interest to people working across the broad spectrum of federal operations. We have teams of reporters assigned to each section to follow the news and report on developments. In the coming months, we will be adding additional features to each section as we continue to develop and expand GovernmentExecutive.com.

As promised, we've unveiled the redesigned GovernmentExecutive.com. We realize that things have changed quite a bit. So here's a guide to the new site.

What's Different

You'll notice that we've shifted our navigational structure away from a series of links running down the left-hand column to a pair of navigational bars across the top of the page. This, we felt, was a more effective way to showcase our content that is more in line with current trends in Web design. In the process of changing the navigational structure, we've streamlined the number of content sections on the site. We've combined our old roster of 10 topic-based sections into four: The Workforce, Defense+Homeland Security, Technology, and Management+Oversight.

Here's a guide to where you'll find information from the old sections in the new ones:

The Workforce includes our former Jobs and Careers section and three other sections that will continue to exist as regularly updated subsections (now labeled "Key Topics"):

Defense+Homeland Security

Technology is the more inclusive name for our former E-Government section.

Management and Oversight includes the following former sections:

  • A-76 & Outsourcing
  • Management
  • Procurement

Finally, at the bottom of every page, we've provided quick links to frequently requested information: Print Subscriptions, Editorial Calendar, Media Kit, Reprints, FAQ, Privacy Policy, and News Feeds. And our Calendar of Events is now in the right column.

What's New

In addition to the changes in the way we're presenting information, we've added some new features to the site. We have a new section, The Magazine, devoted to highlighting the content from our print publication. It allows access to both the current table of contents and our full archives dating back to 1996. It also enables you to sign up to receive a subscription to the magazine (for free, if you qualify) or update your subscription information.

Another new section, Multimedia, combines our old GovExecTV video section with new content. For example, we have debuted a series of Photo Galleries, divided into three categories: Government at Work (highlighting the federal effort to combat avian flu), Beyond the Magazine (taking a more in-depth look at the images behind a recent feature story) and A Look Back, focusing on the rich history of federal operations.

We've got more news, updated more frequently. We have entered into an agreement with the Associated Press to run both breaking news stories and photos every day. That means we'll constantly be updating our news headlines throughout the day. More than ever, GovernmentExecutive.com will be your one-stop shop for news and information about what's happening in the federal arena.

Finally, we've tried to improve our interactivity. Every article includes a box at the bottom for readers to add comments and to respond to those of others. In fact, feel free to use the one below to let us know what you think of the redesign. Or, if you'd rather, drop us a line at webmaster@govexec.com.

As always, it's an honor and a privilege to serve the dedicated community of federal professionals. Please let us know what we can do to better meet your needs.
