Web site urges GSA to bar WorldCom from federal contracts
A former WorldCom employee has created a Web site to urge federal officials to bar the bankrupt telecommunications provider from any further government contracts.
BoycottWorldCom.com sent a letter to the General Services Administration on Thursday, asking the agency to prohibit any federal agencies from contracting with WorldCom.
"In March 2002, the GSA suspended both Enron and Arthur Andersen because the two companies 'had engaged in misconduct and committed internal control irregularities that seriously affect their suitability to receive government contracts,'" said Mitch Marcus, the founder of BoycottWorldCom.com. "Yet it has not lifted a finger to rein in an even worse offender, WorldCom."
Marcus added that he plans to urge more than 850 House and Senate candidates to pledge to support a prohibition on WorldCom contracts.
