Agencies collaborate to beef up airport security
Three federal agencies said Thursday that they are collaborating on a system to enhance information technology security at the nation's airports.
The Transportation Security Administration, the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Customs Service plan to build a technology infrastructure to create a comprehensive communications network among 100 of the nation's airports.
"These agencies are setting an example for the rest of the federal government that we can prioritize our resources, and work together to meet our collective homeland security goals," said Steve Cooper of the Office of Management and Budget Transition Planning Office, in a statement.
Working with the Homeland Security IT Investment Review Group to leverage IT spending, the agencies, when possible, plan to share resources and roll back redundant spending by purchasing interoperable technologies in a coordinated manner.
