From Nextgov.com: VA likely to miss deadline to process education benefits claims
The Veterans Affairs Department has a backlog of nearly 200,000 education benefits claims from veterans just three weeks before universities and colleges start classes for the fall, and it is unlikely VA can process the applications in time, a knowledgeable congressional source said.
COMMENTS
- On this New G.I. Bill for Education The VA has had over a Year to get the kinks out in processing these applications but they don't give a damn about the veterans and/or their families. If I had my druthers I fire everyone that adjudicates any application for any benefits and hire all new people because of the mindset in not about quality of adjudication but they get a bonus by the quantity of claims they process. The way they have been doing business for all these years is that they have a mindset that they are better than anyone else and they can take as long as they want to adjudicate claims and not give due process under the constitution of the United States. - As a disabled veteran who has had to deal with the VA for many years, this does not surprise me. The VA is NOT for the veteran - they do everything they can to discourage you in any and every way. Kathy Posted August 20, 2009 7:54 AM
- I think the comments so far are misdirected and mean spirited. This educational benefit is brand new and is the most significant benefit since the WWII G.I. bill. I would imagine that any new benefit of this size would have a few kinks in the initial implementation. Let us hope, therefore, that they are only kinks and not representative of a systematic failure on VA's behalf. Matt Posted August 19, 2009 8:02 AM
