From Nextgov.com: Air Force suspends Cyber Command program
The Air Force on Monday suspended all efforts related to development of a program to become the dominant service in cyberspace, according to knowledgeable sources. Top Air Force officials put a halt to all activities related to the establishment of the Cyber Command, a provisional unit that is currently part of the 8th Air Force at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, sources told Nextgov.
COMMENTS
- Sometimes people focus on the tools and not the goal. I think that is how we got the Air Force to start with. Maybe it is time to revisit the 1947 decision to create an Air Force as a seperate branch of service altogether. Its constant avarice for ever larger pieces of the defense money pie and dubiously useful hardware seems to lack a strategic focus. Besides has not DHS been directed by Congress to implement securing Cyber Space? Not that Congress funded or staffed that, but they did give them the responsiblity. jim kaley Posted August 14, 2008 9:38 AM
