The Navy, which had outsourced the management and defense of its most crucial network to industry, plans to bring that function back in-house, saying it now views such information technology functions as a "warfighting imperative," requiring the service's managers to supervise the systems.

  • I sure hope the Navy will take control of NMCI. Ever since EDS took control, NMCI has been a disappointment. EDS' proprietary attitude severely affected collaboration with DISA as well as other customers. The Navy should also consider consolidating TRANET into the new network. Perhaps the Navy will consider being part of SOA and join the DISN instead of being an enclave.
  • The present system, NMCI, has been a gigantic money hole. We pay 300 dollars to change the location of blackberries from one cube to another. The quintessential private sector. Talk about 800 dollar toilet seats. Lots more blackberry moves than toilet moves.
  • Finally, adding some real homeland security. Some of the major contractors are run by men with dual citizenship and are major players in their home countries. Half of this administration's cabinet has been people with dual citizenship, politically motivated to protect their foreign interests.
